The Different Types Of Garage Doors

Modern garage doors make a beautiful addition to every home and there are many different types of garage doors on offer.

Even if you are just using your garage as storage space, it still needs to look presentable from the outside.

Choosing the right type of garage door is the key to enhancing curb appeal and adding value to your home.

There are three main garage door types if you consider the material with which these doors are made.

They include wood doors, steel doors, and glass (aluminum frame) doors. Each of these garage door types has its own characteristics.

Wood Garage Doors

Wood is a material that adds authenticity and classic charm to a home. Wood doors are made in different sizes and shapes and are long-lasting, but you may need to repaint and refinish these doors to keep them looking good.

If you have direct sunlight on your garage most of the day, wood may not be the best option for you.

You can easily find mid-price wooden alternatives (composite). The cheaper options are not pure wood. They’re actually lightweight wood frames that have been filled with insulation and then wrapped around a hardboard or plywood skin.

There are more durable redwood, cedar, and mahogany doors available as well.

Steel Overhead Doors

When it comes to garage doors, steel doors are among the most used garage door types.

Steel doors are durable and can be an inexpensive option.

It will need some maintenance, however. Bare steel can rust and steel can dent as well.

Either go with sturdy 24-gauge panels or choose doors that come with a fiberglass overlay that is rust resistant.

Glass Garage Doors

If you want something chic and modern, you might want to go with glass doors because they have a beautiful, contemporary finish.

Their aluminum frames are made with heavy-duty materials and they come in laminated, dent-resistant panels.

You don’t need to worry about rust or similar issues. They are lightweight, sturdy and have excellent curb appeal.
